Where
we are
The Leith School of Art is situated in North Leith, north
east of the centre of Edinburgh. It is in the dock area,
where radical change and new developments are growing
alongside traditional maritime industries. It is an area
with a rich history of industry and a strong community
spirit.
The School itself is based in a
converted church originally built by the Norwegian Lutherans,
when Leith's trade with the Baltic Countries resulted
in a large population of Scandinavian sailors settling
in the area.
The area of Leith has a distinctive
local identity undergoing a process of transformation
in recent years, with traditional maritime industries
co-existing with new developments, shops and cafés.
Just two and a half miles from the centre of Edinburgh,
the School is easily reached on foot, or by car and
public transport.
