Royal Visit to LSA

Little did we know last year when we planned our workshop entitled ‘Royal Portraiture’ for Saturday 5th June, that The Prince of Wales and The Duchess of Cornwall would request to visit the School just three days before it will take place.

Their Royal Highnesses spent an hour at the School on Wednesday 2nd June. They were welcomed by Phil Archer before being introduced to the staff. The Prince of Wales was then taken to the upstairs studio while the Duchess of Cornwall went into the newly refurbished back studio to meet Painting Course students. They then moved on into the Main Studio and Sculpture Court where they spent time talking to the Foundation Course students about their work.

Before they went they were able to see an exhibition of work by past-students of the School in the Corridor Gallery and an example of our future plans for the building by architect and Leith School of Art student, George Keith.

Everyone at the School thoroughly enjoyed the visit and appreciated the time spent by their Royal Highnesses engaging with what we do here. It has also been a good opportunity to smarten the place up before our end of year show, we are particularly grateful to Alasdair Richardson who transformed our front garden in time for the visit.
