Print Noir : New Works in print by Gregor McAlpine
Print Noir
New works in print by Gregor A McAlpine.
Part travelogue, part dialogue, part filmic journey - memories, myths and the seemingly mundane combine with autobiographical references to create linked stories.
Drawn from travels to Denmark, Germany, Italy, USA and nearer to home the artist creates poetic images that are intended to be read and interconnected.
Gregor’s detailed prints have figurative and landscape references ranging from the small to large scale. The works can be viewed independently or as part of a whole.
He completed the foundation course at Leith School of Art with Mark and Lottie Cheverton and then went on to the Edinburgh College of Art where he gained a Bachelor of Arts in Printmaking with Honours and a Master of Fine Art in Printmaking. Since graduating, he has led many workshops at The Leith School of Art and elsewhere.
Gregor has lived and worked as an artist in Italy and Germany and is now based in Edinburgh where he currently works in the Art Department at The Edinburgh Academy. He continues to produce and develop his own work in print, drawing and mixed media whilst pursuing an active interest in art history.
