Students taking part in this workshop will be shown how to begin the process of creating a portrait, whilst also exploring how colour can affect the mood of a painting.

Pulp painting is a papermaking technique which involves manipulating coloured paper pulp on top of a base sheet of newly-formed wet paper to create marks and textures reminiscent of expressive paintings.

A number of ways to create interesting surface patterns on fabric will be looking at over the course of the day.

The first day will be spent at the Botanics, drawing trees in blossom and coming into leaf, these drawings will then be developed into paintings back in the studio on Sunday,

During this workshop students will be taken on a train journey making sketches of varied landscapes glimpsed through the window which will then be developed back in the studio.

Students on this one-day workshop will be encouraged to work from a model taking on the form of a number of different traditional circus acts.

A day devoted to the pleasures of coloured pigment - students will be encouraged to foster a deeper appreciation of the process of painting for its own sake without a final product in mind.
