Use coloured chalk pastels to explore different methods of drawing, colour palettes and colour mixing for the figure.
Students will draw from a life model – working with both a limited colour palette and a more extended saturated colour palette – to create two works during the day. We’ll pay close attention to the colours of flesh and shadows, and look at how to mix coloured pastels to create these tones. As well as focussing on colour, we will address the typical challenges of figure drawing: scale, proportion and measuring.
Throughout the day, we will take inspiration from renaissance draughtsmen such as Andea del Sarto, as well as Pierre Paul Prud’hon, Degas, Mary Cassat and more contemporary artists.
