Using personal imagery as a starting point, students will be introduced to the fascinating and creative process of the reduction linocut.
The day will begin with a practical demonstration to help students understand the process of translating an initial drawing into three separate layers of colour that will be combined to make a vibrant print. The workshop will cover printing techniques including: hand burnishing, using an etching press and our antique Columbian relief press, paper soaking and preparation, paper registration techniques, as well as various inking methods. The potential for colour mixing through transparent layering will also be explored. We will look at the work of printmakers such as Albrecht Durer, Edward Bawden and Angie Lewin.
