Investigate the possibilities of colour within a still life. From colour mixing to creating a colour balance in a painting, students will be instructed on the use of colour step by step.
Working first on smaller colour studies using mixed media techniques such as collage, pastels and acrylic paint, students will build confidence using a limited colour palette. Looking to artists such as Diebenkorn and Matisse, the workshop will go on to explore the possibilities of abstraction and simplification within a longer, more resolved piece. Students will leave the session having learned how to mix and apply colour, and make colour decisions when describing still life compositions.
