Explore drawing outdoors. The day will be spent working on location, building up richly layered colour drawings, and responses to the landscape.
Students will work on gestural drawings to gain an understanding of space and context; line drawings to give a sense of the complexity of a scene, and mixed media pieces exploring composition, colour and tone. Materials will include graphite, ink and wash, charcoal, and pastels. Simple warm up exercises will allow students to loosen up and find ways into the landscape, followed by small-scale monochromatic studies. The afternoon will be spent looking at different ways of adding colour to a larger scale drawing, and developing expressive mark making language.
