The artist Grayson Perry has described the process of making art as ‘serious play’. During this inspiring and playful week, students will be introduced to a range of activities, guiding them towards making work that could be used as part of a portfolio for application to art college.
Depending on students’ own particular interests this may become focussed in the direction of drawing, painting, collage, sculpture or design. There will be the opportunity to experiment with techniques in both two and three dimensional processes. Initially looking at ways of finding inspiration and how to think creatively, students will learn how to make considered and personal visual responses to a subject by using sketchbooks and through group discussion, while also exploring how other artists approach the research and development aspect of making work. Past students’ portfolios will be shown and guidance given on what is required for a successful UCAS application. This is an ideal course for anyone interested in studying art and design who would like to experience a range of exciting activities based on the Leith School of Art Foundation Course and first year at art college.
