This is an ideal course for anyone interested in the creative possibilities of artists’ books, working in the landscape and responding to nature.
The first day of the course will be spent drawing in Dr Neil’s Garden, Edinburgh’s ‘secret garden’ within Duddingston Village. Students will be shown simple methods of making prints ‘en plein air’ and will create work in response to the garden, its natural elements and changing weather conditions. Back in the studio, students will develop their work in mixed media, including trace monotype, pen and ink, drypoint etching and cyanotype. A variety of book structures will be taught and we will consider how text can be thought of as a visual language. By the end of the week, students will have developed work into a single book project.
