This course is designed for students wishing to learn the basics, providing a structured introduction to drawing and painting.
Beginning with line and tone, using a variety of drawing materials such as pencil, charcoal, graphite and ink, students learn how to manipulate the medium, as well as being taught how to accurately record what they see. The course also teaches students how to work in colour, both in paint and pastels. Every step is covered; laying out a palette, how to mix paint and apply it to the surface, and how to see colour and use it creatively. No prior knowledge is assumed, and students are taken through projects step by step to build up their confidence and ability. This course is a great stepping stone to other courses at the School.
