Traditional relief printmaking produces direct, seductive and powerful images. This Summer School will introduce woodcut and linoleum print processes which involve cutting away the surface to create a raised image which is inked and printed.

This simple technique lends itself to many creative possibilities which will be demonstrated and explored by students throughout the week, including different methods of applying colour with a roller and creating multi-colour images from a single plate using the reduction process. Students will also have the opportunity to learn how to manipulate multiple plates and shaped blocks to further develop their work. On completion of the course, students will have created a substantial body of work which will include exploratory works and a suite of prints completed to a professional standard. This course is suitable for both beginners and experienced printmakers.
