This workshop will begin by experimenting with monoprinting as a means of making a rich variety of marks on tonal paper.
Students will experiment with materials such as glue, sand, string, found objects and tape in order to create inventive textured surfaces which can then be inked up and transferred onto paper. These papers will form a rich bank of collage materials that students will use in the afternoon; tearing, cutting and rearranging to form a collaged image of an object. An experimental approach will be encouraged throughout the day, with an emphasis on discovering a new vocabulary of mark-making and unexpected ways of working. Students will finish the day with a collection of exploratory monoprints and a resolved collage.
