The act of building up physical layers in a piece of work can signify layers of time, history or memory. This is an ideal course for anyone wanting to thoroughly get to grips with working in mixed-media while considering how these techniques can communicate meaning in an image.

Drawing and painting from a collection of inspiring found-objects, students will be shown how to work in layers with collage paper, washes and glazes to create depth and surface. Small experimental pieces will develop into a more resolved series or finished piece of work with guidance given on how to pursue personal ideas and interests. By the end of the week, students will have gained confidence combining different materials and controlling surface, colour and transparency in their work.
