This course is designed for anyone who is new to working from the figure and those with some experience wanting to increase their confidence.
Throughout the week, students will draw both draped and life models, learning to look and understand what they see. A variety of exercises will be explored with the aim of capturing the main features of the model’s pose: its weight, proportion and scale. Students will gain confidence using line and tone, negative space, and drawing in proportion. The figure work of artists including Euan Uglow, David Hockney, Augustus John and Richard Diebenkorn will be shown to illustrate and bring to life the themes of the course. By the end of the week a number of drawing and painting approaches to depicting the figure will have been explored and a portfolio of work created including studies and more resolved pieces.
