Objects that are decaying, rusting or disintegrating speak of both their original form and the forces of nature that have worked upon them.
Students on this Summer School will start with in-depth observational drawing before creating large-scale, colour drawings that attempt to reveal the impermanence, violence and fragility of nature. Different combinations of media will be experimented with including: pigment, paint, oils, pastels, glue and collage. Students will create small colour studies, finding non-traditional ways of working that capture specific textures. A larger piece of work will be made towards the end of the week with the aim of creating images full of rigour and feeling.
