The process of collage allows artists to construct striking imagery through a process of cutting and pasting different materials together, playing with composition, scale and form.
Students on this Summer School will take inspiration from a range of artists working in collage, including Richard Hamilton, Eduardo Paolozzi, and Henri Matisse. The group will explore various collage techniques, mark making and alternative approaches to image-making, considering colour and form in order to ‘read’ and ‘see’ images in different ways. This is an opportunity for students to embrace experimentation, working responsively with unfamiliar materials in new and exciting ways using a range of techniques. Collaborative working will also be encouraged and students will work together to produce a gallery of small scale images. These will be photocopied and each student will have a small publication of collected work to take away, alongside their own body of work.
