Pablo Picasso said “I start with an idea and then it becomes something else”.
Learning to use a sketchbook effectively helps to develop and enrich your work as it allows you the freedom to play and experiment. This productively active ’ebb and flow’ attitude will give your ideas the space to germinate and develop. Beginning with your own imagery - in the form of drawing, photographs, collected imagery, prose and poetry - the week will be structured around the creative process of research and development. Students will be shown how to explore colour, composition and mood through a variety of disciplines including collage, printmaking, acrylic painting and pastel drawing. Each student will be given an A3 sketchbook as part of the course, to document their development process. Relevant artists include Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Tracy Emin, Michael Craig-Martin, Vincent Van Gogh and Dieter Roth.
