The rich and varied cityscapes of Edinburgh will be the source of inspiration for students on this Summer School.
The main concern of the week will involve making a range of drawings and notes from which to develop further studies. Students will be encouraged to find a focus of interest to follow over the week and the resulting sketches, drawings, prints and paintings will assist the development of the students own visual language, as well as their specific interest in the urban landscape. Beginning the week with an illustrated talk in the studio, the group will then go out on location in the urban landscape to produce a day of lively sketchbook drawings and research notes. On day two, students will work with monotypes, altering composition and preparing grounds. For the second half of the week the group will paint in earnest, initially focusing on limited palette mixed media studies, before concentrating on full colour palette paintings and more resolved work.
