This course will take an everyday look at the figure. Working directly from the life model, both clothed and unclothed, students will produce a series of studies using a variety of drawing and painting media.
Within a supportive and informed atmosphere, students will be introduced to a number of methods of observation, and will be able to apply these methods to better understand the pose. Building confidence in producing drawings and paintings from the figure is a key objective of the course and each day will involve working directly from the model. Some drawings will include domestic props or structures in conjunction with the model - everyday scenes or scenarios such as dressing/undressing, ironing, hoovering, cooking, reading, eating, sunbathing and sleeping. By the end of the week, students will have explored a number of drawing and painting approaches to depict the figure. Visual talks showing and explaining the figurative work of established artists will be used to help explain and illustrate the taught lessons. Students will produce a portfolio of drawings and paintings, including larger-scale mixed media artworks.
