The process of collage allows artists to construct striking imagery through a process of cutting and pasting different materials together, playing with composition, scale and form.
Students on this Summer School will take inspiration from a range of artists working in collage, including Richard Hamilton, Eduardo Paolozzi and Henri Matisse and through a process of cutting and pasting different materials together explore composition, scale and form. We will explore various collage techniques, mark making and alternative approaches to image making, considering colour and form in order to ‘read’ and ‘see’ images in different ways. This is an opportunity for students to embrace experimentation, working responsively with unfamiliar materials in new and exciting ways. Over the course of the week students will develop a body of work employing a variety of different approaches, and come away with a diverse range of collages.
