Explore how colour can be used as a powerful storytelling device, communicating mood and establishing a visual world within children’s books.
We will begin by looking at a variety of examples of how illustrators use colour. Students will be given the opportunity to experiment, creating a range of colour palettes and playing with how colour decisions affect the tone of an image. In the afternoon we will use the technique of colour thumbnailing to develop ideas and ultimately create a simple illustrated sequence that uses an evolution of colour to convey a story. This workshop is suitable for all levels of experience.
