Starting with the fundamental practice of drawing and painting a life model, students will work from observation before considering ways to deconstruct and play with their image allowing parts of the process to be revealed.
Euan Uglow spoke about imbuing a painting with ‘controlled passion’. Over the course of the week, we will explore this idea, learning how to construct an image: initially through drawing and painting with a limited palette, before creating a resolved painting informed by our studies. Students will be encouraged to treat the week as a personal investigation into the subject, focussing on finding a way of painting that connects themselves, as the artist, to the experience of making a painting.
