A week working from a life model. We will begin with drawing and move into sculpture, working between two and three dimensions to explore the form of the figure.

Starting with basic drawing exercises, students will then sculpt the figure using wire, plaster and clay, looking at how drawing and sculpture can inform one another. For example, making a wire sculpture from a continuous line drawing or creating tonal charcoal drawings from clay sculptures set-up with different lighting effects.

By the end of the week, students will have learnt to convey weight, mass, contours and planes of the figure in their drawings, tried out sculptural techniques in a variety of mediums, and looked at the work of sculptors such as Henry Moore, Alberto Giacometti and Eduardo Paolozzi.
