Drawing from a still life can be an exciting way of pushing and developing your work, triggering ideas and inspiring dynamic colourful drawings.
Thinking of still life as a basis for experimentation, each day the set-up in the studio will change to allow a new way of approaching still life to be explored. The week will begin with a thorough exploration of the fundamentals of drawing, including line, tone, form and composition. We will draw quickly, with a variety of materials to encourage a loose, confident way of working. Then throughout the week, we will look at colour and atmosphere, capturing space and movement, and how artists of the Cubist period approached form.
Students will create a dynamic body of work and on the final day, be encouraged to use their preferred materials and way of working to create a finished piece.
