Colour works through relationship; its effect changes when in dialogue with another colour
This Summer School week will begin with a broad understanding of the history and theory of colour, and how it has been used by artists over the centuries. We will use oil paint throughout the week to explore mixing a palette, investigating how we can select colours to create harmony and mood. Students will begin by working on smaller pieces, painting colour swatches and making colourful papers for use in collage.
Towards the end of the week, these initial experiments will grow into a final piece or series where we will focus on sensitive colour decisions and how to control colour for the benefit of the whole composition.
