This Summer School will explore nature, plants, seeds and ecosystems, using these as inspiration to develop an artist book.
We will spend the first day in the Royal Botanical Garden, drawing, researching and collecting ideas. Back in the studio, students will use drawing, printmaking, cyanotype and stitch to develop their work. The tutor will demonstrate several printmaking techniques and introduce various book structures and bookbinding techniques. We will also look at the work of book artists such as Helen Douglas and the illustrations and poems of Laurie and Tom Clark.
The final two days of the course will focus on bringing together our work from earlier in the week into a finished book work or series.
