This course gives students the opportunity to explore the discipline of drawing in a supportive studio environment, working on a variety of different projects with a selection of wet and dry media.

Aimed at beginners looking to develop their drawing skills and students who want more practice in the fundamentals, Introduction to Drawing is the perfect entry point to develop confidence in your drawing skills. Starting with the very basic elements of drawing; line, tone and volume, students will work from life and undertake short exercises and longer day-long projects. This intensive course is an ideal introductory class to begin your journey at Leith School of Art, and is specifically designed to support students in developing their personal artistic practice. Through fun, and at times, experimental approaches to image making, students will leave the course equipped with a tool box of skills in mark making, having developed a good introductory knowledge to drawing.

This course will cover the fundamental techniques and language of drawing, before exploring more advanced elements such as composition and colour theory. Students will be challenged throughout the course, developing their knowledge of mark making and drawing through group discussion and slide presentations. The course culminates in a personal project that allows students to put their new skills into practice to explore a topic that interests them.
