Beginning with line and tone, using a variety of drawing materials such as pencil, charcoal, graphite and ink, students will learn how to manipulate the materials, as well as being taught how to accurately record what they see.
The course also teaches students how to work in colour, both in paint and pastels. Everything from laying out a palette, through to how to mix paint and apply it to the surface is covered, and students will learn how to see colour and use it creatively. No prior knowledge is assumed and students are taken through projects step by step to build up their confidence and ability. This course is a great stepping stone to other courses at the School.
The course is designed so that terms can be taken separately or more than one taken together to consolidate and deepen the learning. Tutors work with each student individually, allowing each person to work at their own level. Students will finish each term with a body of large and small scale work in a variety of media.
