Ghosts

Willie lived and worked in the Scottish Highlands as a shepherd, remaining in this cottage following his retirement until the location was deemed too remote for his well-being. After nearly 50 years in the same house, he moved nearly ten years ago to the nearest village. Since then the building has remained empty.
Ghosts touches only the very surface of this location in terms of history, architecture, landscape and stories. The drawings are an attempt to illustrate a sense of abandonment and subsequent decay but also the voices from the past that can still be heard in this remote location.

Biography

Having previously done mostly life drawing, my year at Leith has provided the opportunity to develop a much broader repertoire of skills and use of materials, while providing the opportunity to work on more sustained projects such as Ghosts.
It is my intention to further develop Ghosts, exploring this location over the next few months.
