Landscape

Emma Jones

Artist’s Statement

I’m inspired by the sea - swimming, walking along the shore, staring at the horizon. I find other peoples reactions to the sea fascinating - the way it draws the gaze and takes us over, the way everyone on the beach looks like they are contemplating life’s big questions. Two years of covid intensified and strengthened our connection to ‘nature’ and perhaps emphasised the fact that the human race is part of and not separate to it. In my work I try to capture that connection and wonder.

Biography

Emma Jones is an artist and printmaker who lives in Berwickshire and is endlessly inspired by the sea and landscape. She worked as a web designer for 15 years before becoming obsessed with printmaking as an antidote to her life in front of a screen. She sells her work and runs workshops from her Eyemouth studio as ‘Wee Blue Press’. This year, she has progressed her artistic practice on the Leith School of Art Landscape course, exploring the freedom of paint and working big.
