One Day Painting

Martin Henry

Artist Statement

I began painting in 2019. I am particularly interested in the male form and how men occupy their space, how we live in our own skins. I paint from the perspective of a Métis gay man living in Scotland so masculinity, sexuality and heritage play a major part in my work. I strongly believe that painting should not only stimulate the eye but should engage the imagination of the viewer. My many artistic influences include Keith Vaughan, David Park, Paul Wonner, The Two Roberts and the drawings of John Singer Sargent.

Biography

I am from Glasgow but have lived in Edinburgh for 51 years. I finally retired in 2021 having been a forensic social worker then public protection consultant for 47 years. I did the Beginners Course at LSA then two years of the One Day Painting Course and will start the Three Day Painting Course from September 2022. I then plan to move to France as soon as possible and paint pretty much full time.
