Phoebe Stone

Artist’s Statement

“There has fallen a splendid tear
From the passion-flower at the gate.
She is coming, my dove, my dear;
She is coming, my life, my fate;”
- Alfred Lord Tennyson

For my final drawing project, I have gained inspiration from statues, including a collection from Edinburgh’s Warrington Cemetery and from the Bath Abbey. Creating a “stain glass” effect, using layered inks in greens and ochre, my desire has been to evoke a sense of the ethereal and nature through this body of work, which links these figures to the situations where they are often found.

Biography

Originally from Bath and working in Local Government in Bristol, Phoebe took a career break last year to expand her art practice in Edinburgh. Studying on both the Landscape Painting Course and the Drawing course, Phoebe has relished this time to progress as a rising artist. Thrilled to have secured a place on the three day Painting Course, Phoebe will be continuing her studies with Leith School of Art next year.
