Artist’s Statement

Welcome to Porty Parklife.
Portobello is best known for the Prom, the beach and wild swimming. Less well known are some wonderful local parks. Using the simplest of media, charcoal on paper, I have set out to capture the very different atmospheres of Brighton Park on a busy Saturday Market day, a keep fit group having fun in Rosefield Park, and the tranquility of a dog walk by the burn in Figgate Park.

Biography

Fifty years ago my application to Edinburgh Art School was rejected - twice. But art was not ready to let me out of its clutches. Throughout my working life I continued to dabble in watercolour, acrylics, and pastels, exploring disciplines from life drawing to pure abstraction. Last year I decided it was finally time to get serious, and the drawing course at Leith offered exactly what I was looking for. I have loved every part of the course (except for the inky stick!). It has given me the confidence to tackle anything I see in front of me, so now I am off to sail the Atlantic, with my sketch book of course.
