Learn new methods of working directly from the urban landscape to develop ideas for a series of layered, painted collages.
This three-day course will give students the opportunity to spend a day working outside focusing on different drawing methods – reductive drawing, line drawing, mark making and using colour on prepared papers. Through these exercises, we will focus on the importance of tone and colour, simplifying form and recording enough information to develop your work.
We will then spend two days in the studio making a series of works in a variety of materials that explore the relationships between human and natural landscapes. The emphasis will be less on finished work than opening up potential areas of experimentation to develop during the workshop and afterwards.
