Jo teaches the Year-long Figure Course (maternity cover), General Drawing & Painting Evening Course and runs ad-hoc Beginners Printmaking classes, as well as assisting Nicholas Devison in delivering the Year-long Printmaking Course as Tutor Support. Jo can also be found leading Weekend Workshops throughout the year, and in 2019/20 will be running a *NEW* term-long Taster Course on Printmaking.
Jo studied Drawing and Painting at Edinburgh College of Art and The University of Salamanca, and she is an alumnus of Leith School of Art. Jo also trained at Edinburgh Printmakers. Her studio is in Leith and she exhibits nationally and works to private commission. She occasionally designs and paints sets for theatre.
Jo’s interests presently lie in the human response to objects and environments. How we perceive and project meaning and narrative, how we anthropomorphize the inanimate. Her work mostly involves still life, or as she sees it, "making portraits of things that have significance to me". She prefers painting in oils on traditional gesso grounds, and the range of printmaking processes she likes to use include intaglio, relief, stone lithography and a bit of wood engraving.
