Alan is the tutor for our Figurative Course and is a graduate of Edinburgh College of Art and Newcastle Polytechnic. He has been teaching drawing and anatomy for over twenty years in several institutions, including The Royal Hibernian Academy in Dublin, Edinburgh College of Art, Bristol School of Drawing and here at Leith School of Art.
Alan is a figurative artist whose expressive paintings try to convey a sympathetic and emotional response to the subject. His work has been exhibited at the BP Portrait Award, the Threadneedle Prize for Figurative art, and he was a semi-finalist for Sky Portrait Artist of the Year 2014. Alan was winner of the Flora Wood Award (Visual Arts Scotland 2001), the William Bowie Award (Paisley Institute 2004), and the Powderhall Award for Sculpture (VAS 2015).
