Val has taught at the School for more than eight years and teaches a variety of Short Courses and one of our Community Classes. She is also a tutor and lecturer at Edinburgh College of Art.
Val graduated in the History of Fine Art and English Language and Literature at Glasgow University. She completed a Foundation Course at Leith School of Art before going on to study the BA (Hons) course in Intermedia Art at Edinburgh College of Art. She was awarded The Katherine Michaelson Prize for her final year dissertation and is now working towards a practice-led PhD, drawing on the fields of psychoanalysis, semiotics and feminism. Her research considers historical and contemporary inter-relationships between, body, self, identity and ‘other’ to reconceptualise ideas of subjectivity. Val’s art practice includes drawing, painting, installation, video, photography, voice, performance and writing.
