Experiment with animation in a hands-on and introductory setting.
Stop-motion animators move and photograph objects to create the illusion of motion. It is one of the most immediate, tactile and exciting animation techniques, used in classics such as Wallace and Gromit, The Nightmare before Christmas, and Coraline, as well as by experimental pioneers such as Jan Švankmajer and Jirí Trnka.
In this introductory session, students will learn practical animation skills while working on their own short animated scene. We’ll explore movement and pacing with found objects, before designing and creating 2D puppets using card, acrylic paint, and blue-tack. You will learn how to effectively design for stop-motion, explore techniques for animating expressive movements, and get to grips with using free animation software.
Each student will need a smartphone, with the free Stop Motion Studio app downloaded before the course.
All core materials and equipment are provided.
