Use embroidery to explore colour and textures, create a picture or customise an existing piece of clothing or fabric.
We’ll start the day with a quick introduction on how to use the sewing machine, embroidery hoops and needles. There will be a demonstration of a range of embroidery techniques including freehand machine embroidery, hand embroidery, applique and reverse applique, textile design, scissor skills and fabric knowledge.
Aimed at both absolute beginners and more experienced students, the tutor will encourage an open studio where each student can experiment with fabric selection and embroidery techniques before honing in on their chosen design. For those more comfortable with a set goal, there will be guidance on creating a bespoke piece such as cushion cover or pre-designed artwork.
Through one-on-one tuition, you’ll create a piece of embroidery – for use on a fashion garment or as an artwork in its own right - as well as learn how to apply your new-found skills to home furnishings, framing and fashion in future projects.
All core materials and equipment are provided.
