A creative and accessible introduction to drypoint printmaking.
Drypoint etching is an intaglio printmaking technique, whereby marks are scratched into a surface with a sharp, pointed tool. Ink is then caught in these small incisions and transferred onto paper during the printing process.
In this workshop, we’ll begin by drawing natural objects such as seed pods from direct observation, looking to the photography of Karl Blossfeldt for inspiration. Following tutor demonstrations, students will learn how to transfer these line drawings to the drypoint plate, then ink up and print onto dampened paper. Unlike other etching processes, drypoint does not use any chemicals, offering a perfect introduction to intaglio printmaking.
