Use mixed media techniques to bring nostalgic memories alive.
Working with photocopies of their own historic childhood photographs, this two-day workshop will encourage students to investigate these images with a contemporary twist. We’ll start the course off with a discussion of relevant artists including Joan Eardley, Marc I’Anson and Oscar Marzaroli, before examining how our images may be simplified and unified.
We will each create alternative colour studies of our chosen photographs, enabling us to see the image in new ways. With a range of media – acrylics, pastels and inks – we’ll go on to play with altering scale and building layers. After creating a series of studies, each student will then work on a larger, more sustained mixed media painting.
