Use familiar materials in an unfamiliar context with stop-motion animation.
Building upon creative skills you may already be familiar with such as charcoal drawing, you’ll learn how to use free stop-motion software, and some of the oldest - yet most experimental and creative - animation techniques.
This workshop will introduce approaches to animation which build up or take away from an image to create movement. The tutor will demonstrate building up, erasing, and transforming images in charcoal, paint on glass, collage and pencil on paper. Each student will then choose to focus on one or two techniques to create a short animated sequence.
Relevant artists include: William Kentridge, Caroline Leaf, Daisy Jacobs, and Dorota Kobiela.
All core materials provided. Concession rates are available.
