Explore the potential of oil painting using a variety of methods to gain a greater understanding of the medium.
Taking inspiration from artists such as Jenny Saville, Joan Eardly and Cy Twombly, we will begin by experimenting with mark-making. We will investigate how to describe objects using dynamic brush work, as well as the use of more unconventional tools like rags, nails, sticks, and spoons.
Using the gestural marks developed in the first part of the day, you will then undertake a more sustained painting exploring your unique visual language.
This workshop is for students who have a basic knowledge of painting who wish to explore the potential of dynamic mark-making.
