A one-day introduction to drypoint printmaking. Students will create intaglio prints starting with simple line drawings on perspex and applying tone and collage to build up a layered image.

The day will begin a demonstration, showing students how to use a drypoint needle to create lines and tonal marks. You will then spend time creating your own drypoint plate with the option to try techniques such as a la poupée where ink can be applied to specific areas of your plate, and chine collée a method of using coloured tissue paper to add blocks of colour. We will look at how to mix ink and print using an etching press. There will also be an opportunity to explore different drypoint surfaces including card and Tetra Pak.

This workshop is suitable for those new to printmaking and anyone wishing to expand their knowledge and skills.
