Matthew Storstein : Recent Work
Opening Night: Thursday July 5th, 5pm - 8pm, All Welcome
"Nothing is fixed or static. Everything is subject to time or perception. Things evolve and dissolve, memories fade, feelings change. Any instant being temporary, precious and perilous.
The paintings reflect this, through the process of their development. The form of the painting is not preconceived, but rather develops from the formation and dissolution of objects. Forms begin to emerge only to collapse and decompose, their remnants salvaged to create new entities.
At the same time the painting is struggling to take on an object quality of its own, to become a thing in the world and not simply an area where objects are described. The abstract and descriptive qualities develop in tandem, sometimes working together, sometimes against one another. And in this process, when everything is in flow, meanings and emotions can emerge."
