“The same stream of life that runs through my veins night and day runs through the world and dances in rhythmic measures.” Rabindranath Tagore (1861 - 1941)
Leith School of Art is delighted to showcase the work of Valerie Rosmanith McLean - a contemporary Scottish artist and longstanding tutor at the school.
Rhythm, flow and gesture inform this body of work which is rooted in cycles of life: birth, death and the changing seasons. Each painting a study in the energy of being and movement. Each linked to the pulse of the body, the energies of dance and the lyricism of poetry and music.
These WishWorlds, created over the last twelve months, are a response to a year when life was turned upside down by illness and where brush, paint, and colour come together to recall and create worlds of escape, hope and refuge. The recurring motifs of a path, a trail and a river are perhaps a sign that in the most difficult of times there is always a way through.
