Placing the figure in an invented space can allow us to examine and deconstruct the basic elements of figurative painting.
Using mixed media drawing and painting, this one-day workshop will cover the creation of an illusionistic space and how to integrate the figure into it. With the tutor demonstrating where necessary, students will begin with the fundamental practice of drawing and painting the figure. You will then move on to deconstruct your work and find your own ways of abstracting the image.
There will be a focus on each student finding a visual language that connects the figure to the imagined space, as well as exploring how elements of the image’s construction can be revealed.
